Guide to Role Play
Online role-playing is a fun way to make friends, be your original character, expérience a different time line and enhance your writing skills.
Here are some basic steps you should know to be a good role-player.
Here are some basic steps you should know to be a good role-player.
- Get familiar with the kingdom history. The more you know about it the easier it would be to play. Learn about the fictive past of the kingdom in the history section of this forum and the historical past of France Ancien Regime from the web or books.
- Create your character as you like but try to make it different then you are in real life as it could get tricky. Your virtual character is someone you pretend to be so it could be a different sexe then you are and could also be the total opposite of your real personnality. Remember in the Kingdom you can't choose your title from the start so keep in mind you will evolve in society as you play and your character personality can then evolve too.
- Respect others. Be courteous to your fellow role-players and try not to disrupt the Role Play as possible. If you'd like to discuss something concerning the Role Play it's preferred to do so through private messages or in the group chat. Posting Out Of Context (OOC) within a Role Play is to be used only to a minimum. If you plan on leaving an event, post a reason for your leave so people in the Role Play won't have to deal with someone who just vanish into nowhere.
- Don't take things personal. Accept constructive criticism, be nice, remember it is a game and people are playing roles that interact together. Make friends not enemies.
- Basic English is needed. Proper grammar, spelling and punctuation are a very important part of Role-Playing, not only as a way of better describing and communicating to other people your intentions in a post, but also as a way of improving your language skills.
- We encourage the use of french words as the Kingdom of Florin is based upon 18th century France. french speaking is allowed between french players but in order to respect others use a translator when role-playing with english speaking players or use english.
- Content is More important than Volume. Role-Players don't expect a four page essay for a post, but at the same time, they don't want to see one composed of one or two sentences. The content of your posts is the most important thing, as it shows your character reacting to the world around them just like you would expect from a book you read. It's important to put some effort into your posts to make them believable and a lot easier to understand and react to.
- Everything you do or say as an effect. Remember like in Real Life what you do or say is remembered by people around you, in role-play it is the same. This is a reason why people can't get killed by other people they can only get injured and hills. If someone is to die is the owner of the character decision or a banishment. Another good reason to be nice to other as they will remember your actions.
